【Abstract】 Language is the core element of ethnic identity and it s importance has become more conspicuous in the new historical period. Both language and ethnic groups have the attr ibutes of historical development , cultural identity and communication too l because they are closely related to each other in terms of historical, cultur al and social identity. It is the reinforcement of ethnic identity that is the inner mot ive force for the language dev elo pment of an ethnic group. T he paper uses the lang uage of the Bai nationality to reveal the different expressive forms of their ethnic ident ity due to different historical, social and cultural situations.
