The Abstract:
Drawing from over a decade of fieldwork, in ‘Creating a Buddhist Community’, Jiemin Bao provides a detailed account of how participants at Wat Thai, a Buddhist temple in Silicon Valley, California, practice Buddhism and create an inclusive temple community. Exploring Wat Thai’s identification with both the United States and Thailand through everyday practices, Bao demonstrates how this transnational perspective re-imagines and reterritorializes what is called American Buddhism.
